学术方面: 布鲁塞尔大学神经免疫学博士, 美国哈佛医学院博士后. 美国Baylor医学院神经学和免疫学教授, 中国科学院和上海交通大学医学院教授. 长期致力于多发性硬化及自身免疫性疾病的基础及临床研究。在《科学》、《自然-免疫》,《自然-医学》等国际知名学术刊物发表了160多篇学术论文、综述及专著。
临床方面: 在美国Baylor医学院完成了美国临床医师训练,获美国临床医师执照. 有丰富的基础-临床转化性研究和新药临床研究经验.
管理方面: 美国Baylor医学院多发性硬化研究中心主任。回国后,创建了中国科学院健康科学研究所(首任所长),中国科学院上海巴斯德研究所(首任中方所长), 曾任上海交通大学基础医学院院长, 上海市免疫学研究所所长.
新药研发方面: 早年创建了美国Opexa Pharmaceuticals生物技术公司(上市). 2007年起任葛兰素史克GSK 全球高级副总裁,中国研发中心总裁.创建了GSK中国研发中心. 该中心已发展成为一个凝聚了460多名各国科学家及临床研究人员的国际一流的自主创新药物研发机构. 2012年兼任公司神经系统药物研发的全球总负责人, 完成了以上海为核心,链接美国、英国、新加坡的神经系统药物研发从药物靶标筛选等前期基础研究到后期临床试验的全球布局。创造了跨国药企在中国开展创新药物全程研发的先例.
